How often should my lift be serviced ?
This will depend upon usage.
If you are using the goods lift daily for regular use (say 10-20 times a day) then you should consider a minimum service of every 6 months.
If you are using the lift more than 20 times a day, you may like to use the following formula;
30 times a day =x= every 4 months
40 times a day =x= every 3 months
50 times a day =x= every 2 months
60 times a day =x= every 1 months
100 + times a day =x= every 2 weeks
It is essential to remember that proper, regular servicing is a very good OH&S strategy as well as giving you longer life and less problems from your lift equipment.
As an added precaution, it is advisable to do an Inspection once a week on all moving parts.
What is the difference between a Service and an Inspection ?
Basically a service involves getting dirty. Someone must do a "grease and oil change" and repair any equipment which may be wearing out or regularly need replacing.
An inspection involves taking several minutes a week to look at all moving parts and look for stress marks, obstructions and unusual wear. Should you find anything which is in need of repair, we request that you call us immediately and get one of our trained service personel to come and fix your equipment.
If the damage is deemed "life threatening" in Your View, we request that you stop using the lift and post applicable language signs, plus set up a physical barrier at all entrances to the lift in clear view for all to see and read easily. Then call us immediately after that is completed .
OBSTRUCTIONS
In the rare and unusual event that you find an obstruction, we recommend that you shut down the lift until the obstruction is removed, post applicable language signs, plus set up a physical barrier at all entrances to the lift in clear view for all to see and read easily.
Regardless of whether the lift is on 2 or more levels, if possible, we request that you post a staff member at the entrance to each level until the obstruction is removed and the lift is safe to use again.
Then try and remove the obstruction using an object like a stick such as a broom handle where applicable.
If you can "brace" the lift with a solid, strong metal bar, we would ask you to consider doing this as well .
If Unsure, Contact Us
If you are unsure or not equiped to handle this removal, please contact us immediately.
Whatever you do, please be careful and consider that your hand or other body part is not worth the several minutes it takes to get set up properly.
